Why do ferrets need whiskers?

Same reasons why cats needs them, to help judge where the spaces they can fit and feel around the area. If they didint have them, they put themselves in danger, by trying to fit in tight spaces. The whiskers grow the same width of the body, so if the cat/ferret stood up, youll see the whiskers inlining with his or her sides
